Dear S. Lassam
Thank you for your enquiry of 3 July. This falls to be dealt with under
the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
I have been in the process of establishing the information we hold. I am
currently unclear about the exact information you require. Section 1(3) of
the Freedom of Information Act provides that a public authority need not
comply with a request for information unless any further information
reasonably required to identify and locate the information is supplied.
You requested the following information:
1.Can you provide the same details but for the fist six months of this
year?
The most recent statistical information is not available until after the
publication of the quarterly immigration statistics in August 2012. I am
therefore not able to provide this information to you currently.
You may wish to reconsider the date period you require (up to March 2012)
or submit your request at a later stage?
In addition, we are currently reviewing the information released
previously (FOI 21901) under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000 to
ensure that any information disclosed in the future will not constitute a
breach of the Data Protection Act 1998 and therefore require exemption
under S.40(2) of the FOIA pertaining to personal information.
2. I would also like data for prior years to my original request as well
i.e from 01/01/2010 through to 31/12/2010 and from 01/01/2009 through to
31/12/2009.
Bearing in mind that we are reviewing the information released previously,
could you please reconsider the scope of the information you require? For
example, a breakdown by age, gender, nationality and job title are
currently under review although you may wish to narrow your requirements
further?
When you provide this information we will aim to send you a full response
to your request within twenty working days of its receipt. I look forward
to hearing from you shortly. However, please note that if I do not receive
appropriate clarification of your request within three months from the
date of this letter, I will consider this request to be closed.
Kind regards

Dear Daniela,
The information I have requested is exactly the same as that provided to me when answering FOI #96000 earlier this year but in this case for 2009, 2010 and Jan through June 2012. I am therefore unsure why you are unclear about the information I require.
When you answered my request FOI #96000 in January this year and then again in March no reference was made to the publication of the quarterly immigration statistics. Hence I do not understand why my request is now dependent upon the publication of the quarterly immigration statistics in August, and why the publication of that data would prevent you from answering the part of my request for the period January through June 2012.
When you answered FOI #96000 earlier this year I requested other information and we a discussed quite fully what you could and could not be released at that time because of Data Protection Act restrictions, and I modified my request accordingly. I am now confused by your new reference to the Data Protection act.
To change my request as you have suggested would make any data you provide meaningless for my research. Could you therefore please respond to the original request?
Yours sincerely,
S. Lassam
Dear NEYH, Freedom of Information,
Just a gentle reminder that I am still awaiting a response to my request.
Yours sincerely,
S. Lassam
Dear NEYH, Freedom of Information,
With regards to your response of 26th July,
(1) It is now September, so hopefully you have now published the quarterly figures that where due in August.
(2) We have not requested information that makes individuals identifiable, but kept it generic in order that we may analyse the statistics and trends.
I would therefore ask that information originally requested is provided.
Yours sincerely,
S. Lassam
Dear NEYH, Freedom of Information,
Having recently responded to your points above, I would apppreciate a prompt response.
(1) The statistics due in August should now be available
(2) The data requested contains nothing personally identifiable and as such has already been supplied for a different date range.
Yours sincerely,
S. Lassam
Dear Mr Lassam

Dear NEYH, Freedom of Information,
Sandra, thank you for the information. I have tried contacting you to discuss it further but not had any luck. Unfortunately the information is not that requested as it has been summarised to such an extent that I cannot use it for comparison with previous information. Please could you provide an un-summarised version of the information (with any identifying personal details removed) as per my mentioned previous request so that I can perform my own analysis. Many thanks.
Yours sincerely,
S. Lassam

I have used the information from the previous similar FOIs and it was very useful. I can't understand why it is now a problem to provide the information.
I do hope this FOI is successful.
