Ticket offices & machines

We're waiting for freddrick london to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Transport for London,

Could I have the cost of purchasing Multi Fare Machine (MFM), Queue Buster Machine (QBM) & Advanced Fare Machine (AFM)?

Also when is the consultation into the closure of ticket offices on the ex-Silverlink stations on the Bakerloo line north of Kilburn Park going to be held?

Also could I have a timeline of ticket office closures detailing closures week by week?

Yours faithfully,

freddrick london

Dear Mr London

TfL Ref: FOI-959-1516

Thank you for your email received by us on 26 August 2015 asking for
information about ticket offices and machines.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of
the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can
confirm that we hold some of the information you require.

London Underground is making a number of changes in ticket halls this year
to modernise customer service on the Tube. In a planned programme, station
by station, our staff will move to ticket halls, gate lines and platforms
to offer assistance to customers where it is needed most. They will be
more visible and available than ever to help customers buy the right
ticket, plan journeys and ensure they feel safe and secure as they travel.
All stations will remain staffed at all times while train services are
operating. Changes also include:

• Better ticketing facilities – the existing ticket machines at the
station will be improved before the work and will give better flexibility,
for example by allowing staff to offer refunds. Our people will be on hand
to help customers with any ticketing enquiries.

• Enhanced customer service – we will be giving customers better travel
information, leaflets, maps and signage within the station to help them
find what you need. When the ticket windows close, staff will move out
from the back office areas of the station to the ticket hall, where they
will be more available to serve our customers.

Q:Could I have the cost of purchasing Multi Fare Machine (MFM), Queue
Buster Machine (QBM) & Advanced Fare Machine (AFM)?

AFMs and MFM were purchased originally between 20 to 30 years ago, and
have continuously been upgraded during this time. We do not hold the
information about their cost. Please note that QBMs were purchased in the
2000s, and cost circa £25,000.  None of these machines can be purchased
“new”. The recent FFM to AFM conversion cost £29,000 per machine. The new
TfL Ticket Vending Machines (TVM), which will be delivered at Crossrail
stations in 2016/17, will have similar functionality to an MFM, and cost
circa £40,000.

Q:When is the consultation into the closure of ticket offices on the
ex-Silverlink stations on the Bakerloo line north of Kilburn Park going to
be held?

We are currently developing plans for this consultation and timings will
be published on our website by December 2015.

Q: Could I have a timeline of ticket office closures detailing closures
week by week?

Publically available details of ticket hall closures are available on the
TfL website:

Dear FOI,

If there are no new MFMs, I assume stations which have had MFMs recently installed have had them taken from other stations.
Could I please have a list of the stations where MFMs have been moved between?
Also how many FFMs have been converted to AFMs and the stations that they have been installed in?

Yours sincerely,

freddrick london
