Threatened with homelessness - Section 21 notices

Jo Staines made this Freedom of Information request to Haringey Borough Council

Automatic anti-spam measures are in place for this older request. Please let us know if a further response is expected or if you are having trouble responding.

The request was refused by Haringey Borough Council.

Dear Haringey Borough Council,

Since May 2018 councils have had a certain homeless duty (the "prevention duty") triggered when a person is eligible and threatened with homelessness. Threatened with homeless now includes being issued with a Section 21 notice.

For every month since May 2018 to present, please confirm the number of households who have approached the council seeking homeless assistance due to receiving a Section 21 notice.

Yours faithfully,

Jo Staines

Dear Ms Staines

Re: Freedom of Information Act Request ref:  LBH/10641521

Thank you for your request for information received on 6th January 2021,
in which you asked for the following:

Since May 2018 councils have had a certain homeless duty (the "prevention
duty") triggered when a person is eligible and threatened with
homelessness. Threatened with homeless now includes being issued with a
Section 21 notice.

For every month since May 2018 to present, please confirm the number of
households who have approached the council seeking homeless assistance due
to receiving a Section 21 notice.

My response is as follows:

We do not record information in such way that cases with a s21 can be
identified without reviewing each individual case, which would take longer
and cost more than reasonable for the purpose of an FOI.   Cases are
recorded as having a threat of homelessness from the private sector, but
this would not always be the result of having been issued a Section 21
notice.

If you are unhappy with how we have responded to your request you can ask
us to conduct an Internal Review. If so, If so, please contact
the [1]Corporate Feedback Team.  (Please note you should do so within two
months of this response.)

You may also complain to the Information Commissioner's office, which may
be able to help you.  However they would normally expect the local
authority to have undertaken a complaint investigation or Internal Review
of the request before they will accept the referral.
