Thornton Heath Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) Signs

Graham Mitchell made this Freedom of Information request to Croydon Borough Council Automatic anti-spam measures are in place for this older request. Please let us know if a further response is expected or if you are having trouble responding.

The request was successful.

Dear Croydon Borough Council,

The original signs which were erected in Thornton Heath (and taken down on 23 February 2024) had a spelling mistake where Thornton was spelt THORTON.

Can you please provide me with copies of all the correspondence to include suitably redacted e-mail addresses etc and images which were provided to the contracted signwriters. If instruction was given other than by e-mail please provide copies of that correspondence.

If there was an image of the proposed sign provided to the contracted signwriters please provide a copy. Or, did the signwriters have to create the signs from text and images provided by Croydon Council? Please let me have a copy of that text and images. Also, did the contracted signwriters also manufacture and install the misspelled signs.

If the signs created by the signwriters were sent back to Croydon Council for approval before installation who were they sent to and was approval received please?

Yours faithfully,

Graham Mitchell

Dear Graham Mitchell

Request FOI/9787

Freedom of Information Request

Your request has been considered under the provisions of the Freedom of
Information Act. Specifically, you have requested the following
information:

The original signs which were erected in Thornton Heath (and taken down on
23 February 2024) had a spelling mistake where Thornton was spelt THORTON.

Can you please provide me with copies of all the correspondence to include
suitably redacted e-mail addresses etc and images which were provided to
the contracted signwriters. If instruction was given other than by e-mail
please provide copies of that correspondence.

If there was an image of the proposed sign provided to the contracted
signwriters please provide a copy. Or, did the signwriters have to create
the signs from text and images provided by Croydon Council? Please let me
have a copy of that text and images.

Please see attached. From the attached we have removed details of
individuals and their contact details. This information is personal
information and falls within the exemption in Section 40 (2) (a) (i)
(Personal Information) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. This aspect
of your request is therefore exempt from disclosure by virtue of Section
40 (2) (a) (i) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

It is important to remember that when information is released under the
Freedom of Information Act 2000, it is considered released to the wider
public. Any such disclosure of personal information would not be compliant
with the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulations 2018.

Also, did the contracted signwriters also manufacture and install the
misspelled signs.

We arranged for the manufacture of new Public Space Protection Order
(PSPO) signs in Thornton Heath through contractors. The signs included a
spelling mistake which was made in error by the contractors. All signs
were removed and replaced at no cost to the council.

If the signs created by the signwriters were sent back to Croydon Council
for approval before installation who were they sent to and was approval
received please?

The Local Authority did not see a copy of the sign before installation.

The Council publishes Access to Information requests and responses on its
online Disclosure Log. (Any request included within this log will be
anonymised appropriately)
