Thornton Heath Clock Tower

The request was successful.

Dear Croydon Borough Council,

Please advise me of the total cost of the recent refurbishment due to fire damage of Thornton Heath Clock Tower. If there are unascertainable costs please provide a best estimate of these.

Also, was any part of the above total cost met by the council's insurers? If yes, please state the amount.

If no funds were received from the insurers which council fund/reserve met the costs?

Yours faithfully,

Graham Mitchell

Dear Graham Mitchell

Request FOI/8750

Further to your request received on 29/11/2023, I confirm that the Council
has now considered your request under the Freedom of Information Act
2000. Specifically, you have requested the following information:

"Please advise me of the total cost of the recent refurbishment due to

If no funds were received from the insurers which council fund/reserve met
the costs?"

The restoration of the well-known landmark was funded by the councils own
insurance and risk financing arrangements.

Total Cost of repair - £180,899.92

The damage to the tower as arson is an insured peril under the councils
insurance arrangements. Specifically this loss at £180,899.92 falls within
the deductible of Croydon's policy and therefore the immediate costs are
met from the councils self-insurance fund held specifically for losses
falling within the deductible, and also confirm this loss will count
towards the overall aggregate stop loss protection for all property losses
incurred by the council within the financial/policy year.

The Council publishes Access to Information requests and responses on its
online Disclosure Log. (Any request included within this log will be
anonymised appropriately)
