Dalton, Chelsea, Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council

Dear Mr Ogorman,

Thank you for your recent FOI submitted under the Freedom of Information
Act 2000. Please see response below:

o The total number of empty properties in Wirral as at 1^st October 2018
was 4,955 with a total of 2,097 of these properties being empty for
more than 6 months ^(1)

o The Council does not currently have any schemes to buy empty
properties in the borough as it transferred its housing stock in 2005
to Magenta Living and no longer has the expertise in-house to manage
Council Houses.  It does however utilise a wide range of resources and
legal powers to tackle empty residential properties with the intention
to improve neighbourhoods and make better use of existing homes.
Through the proactive work undertaken by the Housing Standards and
Renewal Team, Wirral Council is committed to assisting empty property
owners return their property to use through a number of schemes
specifically developed to enable owners decide which option is the
most suitable for their circumstances and property. We also link in
with the Housing Options Team to try to secure nominations for
households in need for properties that have been refurbished via an
empty property grant.

Wirral Council’s Corporate Plan includes a target of bringing 1,250 empty
properties back into use between 2015 and 2020 and we are well on track to
achieve this target^), during the 2018/19 financial year 278 properties
were brought back into residential use following the intervention of the
Council, contributing to a total of 1,165 since April 2015.

Dear Dalton, Chelsea,
it is time the council employed people to build council houses --and the fig you mentioned of less than 1600 houses is not very good in 5 years --dispute your fig of only 2000 empty that meets your requirements ----that is more then has been built -none of which were council houses ---you also need to recruit staff that can arrange council housing building as you stated on numerous times --so there is no plan to build council houses soon

Yours sincerely,
