The use of SUMS in Medicine

The request was successful.

Dear University of Cambridge,

Hope you are well.

I would like to put forward 2 questions:

1) I have read up on the idea that Cambridge make use of the SUMS system, whereby they look at your 3 relevant science subjects' AS Level Exam UMS score. To my understanding, they use the SUMS system to help them identify people with high academic ability. However as the new AS system and exams are reformed and are now are now linear, raw marks are given as your final mark rather than a UMS score. Therefore will Cambridge still look at the raw marks seriously when everyone is doing a different exam board (no UMS means no comparison)?

2) In the previous system of SUMS, when they say they look at your three relevant science subjects, but I'm taking Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths, will they be taking an average of my best three UMS scores in any of those subjects?

Yours faithfully,

John Smith
