By way of introduction I am Legal Counsel for The Royal Mint.

 

We received an email notice from the ICO on 17 November notifying us of a
complaint you had made to them in respect of a FOI request you sent to us
on 4 October.

 

I have already responded to the ICO along these lines but, unfortunately,
the email address you used is not something we recognised – i.e.
‘[RMAC request email]’ mailbox.

 

We publish our Freedom of Information Policy on the Royal Mint website,
and I set out a link to this below:

As you will note from there, we invite members of the public to submit
their FOI requests to the [2][email address] mailbox.

 

Indeed, I can see that you sent us an FOI request earlier this year and
this was directed to the [3][email address] mailbox in line with our
policy.

 

That said, the email address you used for this current FOI request is a
live Royal Mint mailbox, albeit one that is not actively monitored. I
therefore sincerely apologise for our delay here. We have now put in
place, internally, a measure so that any future emails which are sent to
the ‘[email address]’ mailbox get routed to the
[4][email address] mailbox so an incident of this nature will not happen
again.

 

I hope this is helpful as an explanation as to why your FOI request was
missed.

 

Our team here is working hard to collate the papers within scope of your
request and to review in case any redactions are needed pursuant to the
statutory exemptions. I anticipate being able to send you the papers
during week commencing 6 December at the latest and potentially by the end
of this week. We are certainly taking measures to expedite for you having
regard to the delay.
