King's College London did not have the information requested.

Dear King's College London,

Could you kindly provide me with information regarding the requirement of submitting some copies (soft bound or hard bound) of the thesis before the degree of PhD of King's College London in 1983 and 1984 can be awarded according to your degree regulations?

Please provide me with the content printed on the related pages of the degree regulations in 1983 and 1984 if these pages are still available.

There are some examples about what I want to know. Please refer to the following descriptions.

Example 1:
regulations of University of London in 1983-84:
{
After the examination has been completed and before the degree is awarded a successful candidate is required to submit (the thesis?) to the research degree examination office of the University of London for loading in the college of the advanced study and the university library. Two copies of their thesis, one hard bound and one soft bound in according with this instructions issued by the head of the academic office.
}

Example 2:
regulations for internal students of University of London in 1982-83 (see Item 11.7 on page 1511):
{
A candidate will be required to submit three copies of his thesis either typewritten or printed of which two copies must be bound in accordance with instructions obtainable from regulations for the degree of PH.D.

}

Yours faithfully,

Lu Bo Yan

Dear Information Compliance,

Thank you for your support.

Could you also provide me with the relevant content printed on the regulation of the next year ( for 1983-1984 ) since I find that the attached appendix should be the regulation for 1982-1983. Maybe my request was not well clarified. But I really asked for the regulations for two different years. Please refer to the following statements of my request.
{
Please provide me with the content printed on the related pages of the degree regulations in 1983 and 1984 if these pages are still available.
}

I think that the attached appendix should be printed on the regulation for 1982-1983 because it really match the example 2 mentioned in my request.

Example 2:
regulations for internal students of University of London in 1982-83 (see Item 11.7 on page 1511):
{
A candidate will be required to submit three copies of his thesis either typewritten or printed of which two copies must be bound in accordance with instructions obtainable from regulations for the degree of PH.D.

}

Could you also provide me with the regulation of the next year (for 1983-1984)? According to my information, the relevant texts in the regulation for 1983-1984 should look like my example 1. But I cannot make sure about that. In other worlds, I also need the relevant information of the degree regulation which is suitable for the period of 1983-1984.

Example 1:
regulations of University of London for 1983-84:
{
}

Thank you again.

Yours sincerely,

Lu Bo Yan

Dear Information Compliance,

Thank you for your support.

I want to clarify more about my request.
Please provide me with two regulations for two different years. One regulation is suitable for awarding the degrees during 1982-1983 and another regulation is suitable for awarding the degrees during 1983-1984.

According to my information, the relevant texts printed on the regulation for awarding the degrees during 1983-1984 should look like my example 1.

Example 1:
regulations of University of London for 1983-84:
{
}

According to my information, the relevant texts printed on the regulation for awarding the degrees during 1982-1983 should look like my example 2. I think that the attached appendix which you provided should be printed on the regulation for awarding the degrees during 1982-1983 because it really fits the example 2 mentioned in my request.

Example 2:
regulations for internal students of University of London in 1982-83 (see Item 11.7 on page 1511):
{
A candidate will be required to submit three copies of his thesis either typewritten or printed of which two copies must be bound in accordance with instructions obtainable from regulations for the degree of PH.D.
}

Yours sincerely,

Lu Bo Yan

Dear Information Compliance,

I am sorry that I have to correct the statement of my clarification as follows since I misunderstood the issue about the published day of the degree regulations and the date of award of the degrees.

The correct statement of my request should be:

Please provide me with two regulations for two different years. One regulation is suitable for awarding the degrees in 1983 and another regulation is suitable for awarding the degrees in 1984.

Yours sincerely,

Lu Bo Yan

Dear Information Compliance,

Excuse me, I may find the reason why paragraph 11.7 printed on page 1510 of 'Appendix.pdf' provided by you does not look like my example 1 but does look like my example 2. The reason is explained as follows.

The requirement of thesis submission includes not only the part of thesis submission before the examination but also the part of thesis submission after the examination. Paragraph 11.7 printed on page 1510 is obviously related to the scope of thesis submission before the examination. There should be additional paragraphs which are related to requirement of thesis submission for the successful students after the examination on other pages.

My example 2 should belong to the scope of requirement of thesis submission prior to the examination. My example 1 should belong to the scope of requirement of thesis submission for the successful students after the examination. Thus, there should be the corresponding paragraphs for both example 1 and example 2 in one copy of the regulation.

I think that the sentences in the paragraphs related to requirement of thesis submission for the successful students after the examination should look like the following example and may be printed on some pages which are after page 1511.

Regulations of University of London in 1983-84:
{
}

In summary, I would like the paragraphs which are related to both requirement of thesis submission prior to the examination and requirement of thesis submission for the successful students after the examination. The former should look like my example 2 and the latter should look like my example 1.

Thank you.

Yours sincerely,

Lu Bo Yan

Yes. Now, I can confirm that I would like the regulations for the academic

Our response

Checks with our Records Management department confirmed that we do not
hold University of London (UoL) PhD regulations for 1982-83 or 1983-84.
However, we do hold UoL PhD regulations for 1979-80 and for 1984-85
attached, and an extract of which was send to you previously.

The Records Management department did advise that the material requested
is in the public domain and suggested contacting the Senate House Library
who are likely to hold copies.

Dear Information Compliance,

Thank you for your assistance and suggestion.

An American reporter Michael Richardson used to contact University of London to ask for the 1983-1984 regulation but he was unlucky enough to meet something which is incredible. University of London seems to hide the information by a very naive and ridiculous way. So, I have no choices but to contact the member institution of University of London.

What Richardson met was reported as follows.
https://richardsonreports.wordpress.com/...
{
Emily Brick, Information Governance Officer at the UL, offered no explanation how the regulations could be missing. “I am writing to release the additional information requested – the missing pages in the 1983-1984 Regulations for Internal Students and the General Regulations 1983-1984.”

“I have asked colleagues and we could not find any material on the nomination of examiners for the time and composition of examination boards, although we do have these guidelines now which are published on our website.”
}

At least, I am more lucky than Michael Richardson because dogs ate the missing pages which Richardson wanted. What happened in London during 1982-1984?

By the way, I would recommend a book 'The art of collusion' to the staff of all member institutions of University of London. Some youtuber claimed that he received a copy of the 1983-1984 regulation of University of London and my example 1 is based on his statements.

Yours sincerely,

Lu Bo Yan
