The request for Speed calming measures in Plymouth Road, REDDITCH - between Salop Rd. and No. 45 Plymouth Rd.

P. Bladon made this Freedom of Information request to Worcestershire County Council Automatic anti-spam measures are in place for this older request. Please let us know if a further response is expected or if you are having trouble responding.

The request was successful.

Dear Worcestershire County Council,

INTRODUCTION
There is a serious concern with vehicles exceeding the speed limit in PLYMOUTH ROAD, Redditch. In particular, the section of road between Salop Road and number 45 Plymouth Road is a major worry. Many years ago, a former County Councillor (Robin Lunn) managed to get a 'speed loop' put near No. 83 Plymouth Rd. The data collected provided evidence to support the concerns expressed by residents.

The problem of speeding vehicles continues. During the period of approximately three years (2020 to now 2023), REPEATED REQUESTS have been made to the current County Councillors, including Brandon Clayton, requesting measures to reduce the speed of vehicles travelling in BOTH directions along Plymouth Road. Despite making numerous requests at the local PACT meetings, Worcs County Council’s Highways’ Dept. have taken NO significant traffic calming measures to reduce the speed of vehicles in this section of Plymouth Road. The white painted 'SLOW' markings on the road surface are ineffective.

And an email sent on 06 June 2023 at 10:23 to the Worcs. Highways Hub
[ highwayscontrolcentre AT worcestershire.gov.uk ] was never replied to.

REQUEST
Residents continue to be EXTREMELY CONCERNED, and wonder if either of the current county councillors have contacted the Highways’ Dept. about speeding traffic on Plymouth Road.

1.Have either of the current county councillors for this area of Redditch raised this issue with WCC’s Highways’ Dept.?

2.If one or both of the county councillors have raised this problem, kindly provide details including dates, and the information the councillor(s) gave.

THANK YOU.
Yours faithfully,

P. Bladon

A few years ago when the County Councillors were asked - in particular Councillor Brandon Clayton, the specific request was for a speed loop - (to collect data) in the section of road between Salop Road and Bentley Close.
From the reply received it's clear that Councillor Clayton made a wrong request - the wrong section of road! VERY DISAPPOINTING!
