The New Police Crime Commissioners

The request was successful.

Dear Home Office,

It would appear that like the IPCC the integrity and independence of the new Police & Crime Commissioners is already in contention as their offices and working environments are within Police Headquarters?

My FOI questions are:

1. How many PCC have offices in Police Headquarters or Police Buildings?

2. Where do the new PCC's draw their staff from, how many of those staff(percentage) are serving or ex. Police Officers?

3. How can they the PCC, like the IPCC, claim Independence, when they serve and share in the same environment as the Police officers they are supposedly overseeing?

4. Surely this arrangement is a recipe for disaster and a continuation of the 'Club culture' that has already brought police into disrepute and how can the public have confidence in a system that does nothing to enhance the integrity of the PCC's?

Yours faithfully,

tony lowery

Whilst I eventually received a response it was typical Governmental, non committal and ambiguous and did not satisfy the concerns expressed over the new PCC posts so once again we have a new watchdog who's integrity is suspect. Most important it failed to answer if staff were comprised of Police Officers?
