The Minutes of the Working party set up to introduce the MMR vaccine into the UK dated 9/6/87
Dear Department of Health and Social Care,
Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, please supply the following information.
The Minutes of the Working party set up to introduce the MMR vaccine into the UK dated 9/6/87 includes a paper referred to as “MMR12” where it is stated that the two brands of MMR to be introduced into the UK were to be provided by SmithKline and French Ltd (Pluserix) and Merieux UK (Immravax) and that they contained the same strains and Tissue Culture Dose of Virus.
It is later noted in a paper (dated 13 March 1992) tabled at the SEAR committee meeting that the vaccines “contain Urabe mumps virus in different doses and differently grown, the former in chick fibroblasts the latter in egg amniotic fluid”.
Please provide (a) the date when this change took place and (b) a copy of the original Product Licence for Immravax showing how the two vaccines were the same both with regard to strains and TCID of virus as quoted in 1987.
Thank you
Yours faithfully,
Angus Files

Dear Mr Files,
Thank you for your email. Unfortunately, as explained in the attached response, the Department is unable to suggest how you might wish to refine your request. To even determine if the information requested is held would involve manual searches of a substantial volume of paper files and records held in our archive, which would exceed the cost limit as set out by the Information Commissioner's Office. I am sorry I cannot be more helpful on this occasion.
If you wish to request an internal review of the handling of your case, you may do so by replying to this email.
Yours sincerely,
Charlene Carter
