THe Law that dictates how much a person needs to live on

B Meinhardt made this Freedom of Information request to Department for Work and Pensions

The request was partially successful.

From: B Meinhardt

26 December 2010

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,
In 2008 I lost my job due to ill health and while recovering I was
told that the law says I need £65. to live on. Since then my health
has improved and I am now working, but the wages are low and I
receive working tax credits. I am not entitled to rent rebate etc
because, once again, the law says I need £65. to live on. £65. is
not enough to live on, I work hard and yet I can't afford to eat a
healthy diet never mind anything els.

I want to know which law dictates how much I need to live on and
how old it is. I know that the rule that says an unemployed person
can earn £5 per week has not been updated for 20 years!

Yours faithfully,
Bernice M Meinhardt

Dear DWP Adelphi Freedom-of-Information-Request,
I thank you for your response, I have read through them and they do
not answer my question. Are there supplementary documents that
mention money; how much a person can earn before loosing
entitlement to, say, housing benefit, who set the levels and is it
linked to inflation

Yours sincerely,

B Meinhardt
