The health impact of Age discrimination in the UK job market
Dear Department of Health and Social Care,
I have read the Statistical report: near to real-time suspected suicide surveillance (nRTSSS) for England for the 15 months to April 2024 Updated 25 July 2024 from the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID) .
I note the report draws upon suspected suicide data from across England supplied by local police force areas (PFAs) submitting to the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) Suicide Prevention Portfolio.
I note the report reports numbers and methods of suicide but not root cause .
Are there any plans to broaden the scope of the report to include root cause ?
I note the designation ‘suspected suicide’ is provided by the police and the term is used because the cause of death has not yet been confirmed by coroner inquest. When ‘sudden and unexpected’ death occurs, the suspected cause of death is allocated by the attending police officer.
I do not think the police have the resources to establish root cause but wonder if partner agencies working on suicide prevention can and whether I can add any value to the near to real-time suspected suicide surveillance (nRTSSS) program through my research into age discrimination in the UK job market .
Yours faithfully,
Iain Meyrick
