The DEMUNICIPALISATION of Wirral's Council housing stock (houses, flats and bedsits).

Alan Rundle made this Freedom of Information request to Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was refused by Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council.

Dear Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council ('the Council'),

Prior to February 2005 the Council was responsible for 13,100 COUNCIL houses, flats and bedsits, housing approximately 50,000 people.

In February 2005, 13,100 householders had the right to vote as to whether or not they wished to remain as Council tenants or to become Housing Association tenants.

If more than 50%, OF THOSE WHO VOTED, voted to become Housing Association tenants then all 13,100 Council households were switched to Housing Association control.

This is, apparently what happened in Wirral borough.

In February 2005 Wirral Partnership Homes (renamed 'Magenta Living') was created and took possession of the 13,100 Council homes, in exchange for a £1 coin.

The Council had a £100 million debt written off by the government.

Please provide the following information:

(i) How many Council tenants voted, in February 2005, to remain Council tenants; and
(ii) How many Council tenants voted, in February 2005, to become Housing Association tenants.

Yours faithfully,

Alan Rundle

Dear Mr. Rundle,

Thank you for your request for an Internal review shown below.

As the reviewing officer I have revisited your request and Council’s
original response.  I have also had regard to the recorded information
held by the Council currently on this subject matter.  My findings are
that the Council does not hold recorded information on how many tenants
voted in February 2005 to remain tenants or voted to become Housing
Association tenants.  We therefore have no recorded information to supply
to you.

If you are dissatisfied with the outcome of this internal review you have
the right to complain to the information Commissioner whose contact
details are below.
