Some information here Fiona:

https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/p...

But as you can see, the PHSO seems loath to provide the segmental expenditure - within departments.

Whether this is because the PHSO cannot ccount for this expenditure, or just unwilling to allow the public to know what it is, I do not know.

We do not hold information relating to the budget prior to 2006 and so are
unable to provide you with data for 2000, 2002 and 2005.

I hope this information is helpful.

It's a substantial increase.

But there again, the PHSO is so much under attack for its incompetence ( Jeremy Hunt, Patients Association)that it needs more people to defend it.

J Roberts left an annotation ()

Certainly is a substantial increase in the budget. Up 55% between the years 2010 and 2013. This increase must be considered against the background of the UK economy which in 2012, according to official figures, continued to shrink in the first two quarters of 2012 and marked Britain's return to recession.

I meant to write 81%.

J.T Oakley,

You have worked out that the PHSO has had an increase to it's expenditure of 81% between 2010 and 2013.

81% INCREASE IN MEDIA RELATIONS?

Personally, I feel uncomfortable with any involvement of a PR machine at The Ombudsman who is answerable to the public.

Is "PR" taking over the budget at the PHSO?

Is it ethical to put a spin on NHS accidents, cover ups and maladministration?

Is it ethical to make out to the British public that a regulator is doing a better job than it might actually be doing?

How can lessons be learnt and how can services be improved when the agenda seems to be focused on covering up the bad news?

Scary statistics that we may need to review with more scrutiny.

There's a lot to cover up.
