The amount of money spent on disability benefits across the 10 biggest councils in Scotland

The request was successful.

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

I am writing to make a request under the Freedom of Information Act for information about the money spent on disability benefits across the 10 biggest council areas in Scotland.

More specifically I am requesting the following:
1. The amount of money spent by your council on benefits for people with a disability in 2017. Please provide a breakdown of money spent across each year with a detailed specification of each different benefit from each council

I have provided an example of how this answer might be formatted:
COUNCIL MONTH AMOUNT SPENT (£) BENEFIT
EAST AYRSHIRE COUNCIL JANUARY 2017 30,000 DISABILITY LIVING ALLOWANCE

b) Please could you also provide:

2) The same as above for 2016.

3) The same as above for 2015.

4) The same as above for 2014.

I would like this information in electronic format, preferably as CSV files. Get data in format you can use.

If my request is denied in whole or in part, I ask that you justify all deletions by reference to specific exemptions of the act.

Please let me know you have received this.

If there are any problems, or you need more information please get in touch.

Yours faithfully,

Sanjeev Mann

Sanjeev,

Much of the information you have requested can be found using Stat-Xplore, the DWP statistics system - you can access this at https://stat-xplore.dwp.gov.uk

The datasets for PIP and DLA claims in payment each allow you to drill down to a local authority level, therefore, it's possible that you can find the information you need relatively easy by tabulating it from the different tables. For reference, the data on DLA goes back to 2002.

Hopefully this is of some help while you wait for an official reply!
