The adjacent road to the Westgate Hotel, Oxford
Dear Christ Church, Oxford,
I recently submitted an FOI request to Network Rail about the road adjacent to the Westgate Hotel on the junction of the Botley Road and Mill Street, Oxford.
NR informed me that the adjacent road is the property of Christ Church.
I also asked my local councillors whether Oxfordshire City Council is responsible for the upkeep of the road. They said no and were not sure who was responsible. The road is in a serious state of disrepair with numerous potholes that pose a risk to both pedestrians and cars. So my questions are:
1. Can you confirm you are responsible for the upkeep of the road?
2. If so, can you tell me when you will repair the road?

Dear Mr Magee,
Please accept my apologies for late response.
Please find below a plan which shows Christ Church’s ownership and I
presume the area you are referring to as “the road adjacent to the
Westgate Hotel on the junction of the Botley Road and Mill Street, Oxford”
is the land shaded purple on the plan. Although the freehold is within
the registered title of Christ Church, I can confirm this is public
highway and, by default, is the responsibility of the County Council.
The blue road to the east is a private road with access rights for the
owners of 8-11 Mill Street.
