Texila American University Guyana Online MD

We're waiting for DAVID ROSS to read recent responses and update the status.

Dear General Medical Council,

It has come to my attention that Texila American University, Guyana, promoted by certain agencies, offers an MD program that allows students the option of completing the first two years of the program online.

Could you kindly clarify whether the GMC recognizes this form of education as acceptable for medical training?

Yours faithfully,
David Ross

Lauren Barrowcliffe, General Medical Council

Dear Mr Ross,

Your Information Request - IR1-4796520700

Thank you for your email dated 21 February asking whether the GMC accepts
primary medical qualifications from Texila American University Guyana
where there is an option of completing the first two years of the program
online. We have considered your request under the Freedom of Information
Act 2000 (FOIA).

Graduates from Texila American University Guyana are currently eligible to
take PLAB/apply for registration.  They would be required to declare any
online/virtual learning when creating their GMC account and we would only
then be able to make a determination on whether a full PMQ assessment was
required or not.

Please note our [1]criteria states in regards to online learning that a
qualification cannot have been undertaken entirely virtually.  The amount
of virtual/online learning undertaken would need to be assessed at the
point an applicant is ready to take PLAB/apply for registration.
Unfortunately we are unable to confirm if a primary medical qualification
would be acceptable until it has been completed.

Kind regards

Lauren Barrowcliffe
