Dear Ms Rose

TfL Ref:          FOI-0438-1112

Thank you for your e-mail received by Transport for London (TfL) on 8 July
2011 asking for information about route 434 and document issued to QSI
surveyors.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of
the Freedom of Information Act and TfL's information access policy.  I
can confirm TfL holds some of the information you require. You asked:

1. Please provide any documentation issued to the public prior to the
introduction of Route 434 and throughout its operation.

A leaflet was produced for route 434, however we no longer have a final
version of this booklet. However, copies should still be held by our
cartographic supplier, who would charge £90 to retrieve the file. You
would need to pay this to obtain a copy of the booklet. Please let me know
if you would like to pursue this and I can contact you regarding the
necessary payment arrangements.

We did a public consultation in 2003, including exhibitions in Couldson,
Purley and Whyteleafe and had some display boards for the general public,
but unfortunately, we no longer have this information in our files.

2. Anything that is issued to QSI surveyors to aid their job i.e. an
instruction guide.

All of the QSI surveyors left TfL's employment on 1 April 2011. This
function is now being undertaken by GPS based technology (iBus). Prior to
starting work, surveyors undertook a comprehensive training programme
which covered the following:

Training aim:

· To ensure the delegate is fully aware of the functions of the
handheld Psion.

· To ensure the delegate is fully aware of map instructions.

· To ensure the delegate can utilise the modem to download data
files.

Learning Objective:

By the end of the training delegates will be able to:

· Monitor buses using the QSI and BSM Data Entry

· Change the date and time on their Psion/PDT

· Input and understand about Gone and Back marker

· Successfully transmit data files

· Understand and locate running numbers and destination codes
on buses

· Correct errors and edit data on the PDT

· Understand the shift patterns

· Read and understand map instructions

Training was provided on the job and there were no training materials
except for the aims and objectives listed above and a user guide of the
electronic device.

3. The guides below , were both mentioned in the route 434 specification
guide that was issued to me in an earlier request:

· Part A Guide for Tenders

· Master ITT Version 2 issued June 2005

Please find these guides attached in full.

to access it for some reason, please feel free to contact me.
