Lorraine Binsley

Dear West Midlands Combined Authority,
I have recently noticed that a number of temporary cameras have been installed in Great Barr , Birmingham that appear to be monitoring traffic on a number of roads. Having spoken to a Senior Highways Engineer at Sandwell Council. They have advised me that the West Midlands Combined Authority are carrying out road traffic surveys in readiness for the Commonwealth games. I am aware that traffic congestion is a particular problem around the Scott Arms area of Great Barr and there are further issues on the Newton Road and Birmingham Road in the vicinity of M6 Junction 7 and at the Bell Public House (Birmingham Road). These areas also exceed current legal NO2 levels with a number of Schools ,Nurseries , After School Clubs and Toddler Groups within 85 metres of these Pollution Hotspots.
Please could you advise if the WMCA have any intention to carry out any major road alterations near to the Scott Arms Junction or in any other part of Great Barr in readiness for the Commonwealth games and if so what is planned. Obviously if traffic flows more freely this in turn will help to reduce pollution which I note exceeds government legal limits.
I await your response.
Yours faithfully,

Lorraine Binsley
