Dear British Broadcasting Corporation,

I have read with interest recent reports in the printed and on-line press relating to the number of monochrome television licences still in force in the United Kingdom. These reports have appeared in many different media outlets but their wording, use of certain pictures and timing is such that their publication cannot surely be coincidental and they must surely have been published as a result of a formal press release by Television Licencing.

For completeness, I would like to cite some examples:

UK national newspapers:
28/12 Daily Mirror : http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/bla...
29/12 Daily Telegraph : http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopi...
28/12 Independent : http://www.independent.co.uk/news/media/...
28/12 Daily Mail : http://www.dailymail.co.uk/wires/pa/arti...

UK local newspapers:
28/12 Leicester Mercury : http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/75-peo...
28/12 Herald Scotland : http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/14169...
28/12 Liverpool Echo : http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/live...
28/12 Peterborough Telegraph : http://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/news/...
29/12 Burton Mail : http://www.burtonmail.co.uk/Dozens-watch...
29/12 Cumbrian News & Star : http://www.newsandstar.co.uk/news/set-in...
28/12 Wolverhampton Express & Star : http://www.expressandstar.com/news/uk-ne...

... and many, many more.

Under the transparency afforded me by the Freedom Of Information Act I would like you to:
1) Confirm, please, that a press release concerning use of monochrome TV licences was issued on or around 28th December 2015.
2) Tell me, please, which part of the television licencing operation (for example, TVL, Capita, or the BBC) issued said press release.
3) Supply me, please, with a complete list of all media outlets to which the press release was sent.

I look forward to receiving your timely and comprehensive response.

Thank you.

Yours faithfully,

Mr A Willmore
