Request under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

I refer to your correspondence dated 11 November 2018 requesting information in relation to Teachers' working hours.

The Council is treating your request as a request under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 and can respond as follows:

(A) How does the Council track teachers’ actual hours worked?

The Council does not have a mechanism to track or record the time teachers chose to work away from their place of work. The national conditions of service allow a teacher to undertake certain duties away from school.

The Council does work collaboratively with the teaching unions and professional associations to ensure that there is a mechanism to manage teachers time and associated workload. School staff are consulted annually on a Working Time Agreement for each school and this information is reviewed by the Joint Negotiating Community for Teachers in East Ayrshire.

(B) Please provide a list of overtime hours and rates paid to teaching staff over the 2017-2018 academic period, broken down per school/centre/service and job role.

There is neither a contractual entitlement nor provision for overtime rates for teachers.

I trust this information has been of assistance to you and I have attached a leaflet to confirm your rights.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further information.

Kind regards

Caroline
