Teacher data in PRUs
Dear Sir/Madam,
This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. I would like to request the following information:
1. Please list the total number of teaching and support staff (e.g. TAs, LSAs etc.) in your PRU on the 7th February 2024, and how many positions were unfilled by permanent staff?
2. In the academic years 2021/22, 2022/23, and 2023/24 (so far), how many full-time teaching and support staff (e.g. TAs, LSAs etc.) had physical restraint training in your PRU? Please separate these figures by school year.
3. In the academic years 2021/22, 2022/23, and 2023/24 (so far), how many times were there incidences of violence towards staff at your PRU? Please separate these figures by school year.
4. In the academic years 2021/22, 2022/23, and 2023/24 (so far), what were the total number of sick days taken by teaching and support staff (e.g. TAs, LSAs etc.) in your PRU? Please separate these figures by school year.
As a reminder, by law you have 20 working days to respond with the information. Please provide the data in an Excel spreadsheet.
I would be grateful if you could please confirm receipt of this email.
Kind regards,
TJ Jordan
Thank you for contacting St Peter's Centre, I am now away from the office
until Monday 19th February.
If your query is urgent outside of these hours please call the school on
01784 439168.
Thank you
St Peter's Centre
Dear TJ
I write to you in response to your FoI (copied below) received by St
Peter’s Centre, Egham. St Peter’s (School) have contacted us for guidance
in responding to your request as we provide their Data Protection Officer
(DPO) service.
I can confirm School are very happy to provide the data you have
requested. However, I will first advise that School are a medical referral
unit and admit pupils with medical needs for short-term stays only. We
note your questions refer to physical restraint training, violence against
staff and sick days; these questions would appear to relate more to a
behavioural PRU than a medical centre. The nature of the health issues of
pupils admitted to this medical referral unit means physical restraint and
violence against staff are not of relevance to School. If such data from
School were to be included in a research document, the data provided may
impact on your data analysis and skew your results. Your request may be
better directed at behavioural referral units only.
School are happy to respond, in line with their obligations, by 15 March
2024 (20 working days from the date of your request) unless, based on my
points above, you feel your request is better suited to non-medical
centres. If this is the case, please do let me know and we will close this
request.
Best regards
Claire Lockyer

Dear Claire,
Many thanks for your email. I appreciate your clarification for clearly explaining your reasoning. I would still like to request this data, and will take the differences between behavioural and medical PRUs into account in analysing the data.
Many thanks,
