Dear Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council,
Will You please provide information relevant to the following Questions.

1. Could You please provide or direct me to the policy that taxi and private hire drivers follow when they `Renew` their badges.

2. If it was requested by a driver would the council consider issuing a temp badge to enable a driver to continue working while a `hold up at D.B.S` for example was preventing the `renewal process from being completed.

3. If there is a gap between expiry and renewal, caused by a delay in the process do the council require the driver to re-apply as if he/she were a new applicant.

Thanks
Kevin Ross

Yours faithfully,

kevin

Dear Mr Ross

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request regarding taxi and
private hire drivers.  Please see our response to your enquiry below in
bold.

1. Could You please provide or direct me to the policy that taxi and
private hire drivers follow when they `Renew` their badges.

A.  Please find attached a copy of the Council's Policy relating to the
conduct for Private Hire and Hackney Carriage Licence Holders.

2. If it was requested by a driver would the council consider issuing a
temp badge to enable a driver to continue working while a `hold up at
D.B.S` for example was preventing the `renewal process from being
completed.

A. The legislation allows a licence to be issued for a maximum of 3 years
and it cannot therefore be extended beyond that period.  The Council has
to ensure that licences are issued to drivers who are fit and proper
persons.  A temporary licence cannot be issued.

3. If there is a gap between expiry and renewal, caused by a delay in the
process do the council require the driver to re-apply as if he/she were a
new applicant.

A. If a licensed driver does not renew their licence before the expiry
date they will be required to submit a new application with all the
requirements of a new application.

We trust this information is of use to you.

Yours sincerely
