Dear St John’s College, Cambridge,

I would like to know, for all years that data is held, the number of applicants who stated SJC as their named preference for postgraduate taught courses .

Yours faithfully,

Daniel Kandel

Freedom of Information Officer, St John’s College, Cambridge

Dear Mr Kandel,

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request regarding applicants for
postgraduate taught courses at St John's. I’m afraid the College does not
hold all the information you require, as some applications are rejected by
the Faculty before they are sent to their preference colleges,  there are
a fairly large number of late applications which do not reach the College
before we close, and we also do not retain information on applicants who
do not take up a place here. The best source for information on college
preferences for Graduate applications is the University Graduate
Admissions Office, who should be able to provide you with the full
picture; contact details can be found here:

If you are dissatisfied with my response you may seek an internal review
in writing setting out the grounds for review. It will be dealt with by a
College Officer. Should you not be satisfied with the outcome of the
review, you will have a right of appeal to the Information Commissioner by
writing to him at Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water
Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.

Yours sincerely
