Tampon Tax

The request was partially successful.

Dear Her Majesty’s Treasury,

George Osborne recently stated that the Treasury is unable to abolish tampon tax due to EU rules. Mr Osborne stated that all monies raised from menstruation products would be ploughed into domestic violence services. At the very least a woman will spend £2 per month on products and so if we assume approx £25 per year that's £1.25 in tax per year, per woman aged 15-45.

Q1) Where is that money? I request a detailed breakdown of all revenue raised by menstruation products such as tampons and sanitary towels.

Q2) How can it be applied for? What is the process that ensures the money reaches women affected by domestic violence? It was promised for women's refuges, how do refuges and other service providers access the funds?

Yours faithfully,

Woman Up
