Syrian Fashion Budget

The request was successful.

Dear UK Trade and Investment,
Roughly what money has been spent from 2005 until now to promote British Fashion in Syria, under budget headings asscociated with British Fashion Council or London Fashion Week or Ethical Fashion Forum?
regards
John Robertson

PS I read:
"UK Trade and Investment has supported London Fashion Week since 2002, providing funding and expertise to help bring key international retailers and press to London Fashion Week each season and providing funding for market reports and the BFC designer showroom during Paris fashion week."

In the context of the first lady of Syria appearing in Elle Magazine and potentially damaging the image of the UK abroad by so-doing, I hope that various despots or unpopular groups in other countries are not being subsidised and so damaging respect for the UK abroad and the chances of UK companies exporting in future.

PPS I note:
British Fashion Council appointed Mr Rose of M&S to a taxpayer-funded job about the same time he made most of his UK suppliers' staff redundant in order to cut costs and pay for his shopkeeping mistakes in France. Another appointment has been the boss of "Esthetica", Orsola de Castro, who is linked to Ethical Fashion Forum, a group which warns on its website against buying british products for ethical reasons and, like British Fashion Council, is a trade association of clothing importers.

RE: FOI 12/0166 – Syrian Fashion Budget

Thank you for your Freedom of Information (FOI) Request of 2nd February 2012 in which you requested;
What money has been spent from 2005 until now to promote British Fashion in Syria, under budget headings associated with British Fashion Council or London Fashion Week or Ethical Fashion Forum?

To enable us to respond to your enquiry we have searched UK Trade & Investment records of all support provided under the prescribed budget headings over the period requested. In addition we contacted the British Embassy in Syria who undertook the same search.

I can confirm that no money has been spent to promote British Fashion in Syria.
