Dear Highways England Company Limited,
The Sunday Telegraph has reported motorists whose cars break down on a live lane of a smart motorway will not be spotted by specialist radar on 95 per cent of the network because only 23.86 miles of the carriageway has the technology.

What 23.86 miles, when was it installed, when was it operative and when was it turned on and if turned off when and why.

The Sunday Telegraph has reported for the last nine months, Highways England has failed to switch on any new ‘Stopped Vehicle Detection’ (SVD) systems that use radio waves to spot a stationary vehicle and alert control room staff of the emergency within 20 seconds.

How does new SVD differ from the 23.86 miles.
Why has it not been switched on.

Who monitors SVD, how many staff are employed for this and what are they doing.

Yours faithfully,

Edward Cole
