Dear Tina

In response to your query re.

"...how much funding the NDA has provided to the Sutherland Space Hub
Please provide information on why the Sutherland Space Hub does not adhere
to the EU Directives on Climate Change and Sustainable Tourism."-

NDA has agreed to provide socio-economic grant funding to Highlands and
Islands Enterprise in support of the delivery of the Sutherland Space Hub
project.  £200k of funding was provided for last financial year (2022/23)
and £1.25m is budgeted for this financial year (2023/24).  This funding
has been provided as part of our socio-economic duties under the Energy
Act 2004 and supports UK and Scottish Government Policy.

NDA does not hold any information regarding the Sutherland Space Hub’s
position in relation to the EU Directives on Climate Change and
Sustainable Tourism.  Further information on this matter may be obtainable
from Highlands and Islands Enterprise directly.

Regards

Dear Enquiries,

It is noted that you say HIE should have the information. They do not. The legal matter sits with the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency, but wanted to raise the matter with the NDA as they are funding. It is suggested that the NDA write to SEPA and ask the question. There is also the matter of HIE wanting the Council to put in a bye law in the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2016 to restrict access around the Sutherland Space Hub at various times which makes sense. However no date has been given and even the Highland Council don't know. Refer to Annex 1 of the Act and note the notifiable plants.

Yours sincerely,

Tina Marshall
