We have considered your request which was for the information set out
below.

 

The Coroner is not a public body for the purposes of the Freedom of
Information Act and therefore is not legally obliged to respond to your
request insofar as the information is held by the Coroner.

 

We have only been responsible for providing support to the Coroner since
April 2018 as this role was previously undertaken by Surrey Police.

 

We are able, therefore, to respond as follows:

 

1. How many complaints have been made against the Surrey Coroner and or
his Office in the last five years? i.e 1/1/15 to 1/1/20  

 

26 complaints were received directly by Surrey County Council since April
2018, and were passed to the Coroner for response.

 

We only have outcomes recorded on our systems for 9 complaints. 5 are
recorded as upheld, of which 4 related to delays or lack of
communication.  We do not hold any other information on complaint
outcomes.

 

2. How many of those complaints at 1 above have been upheld?
