Can I please have for Daisy Hill Hospital the numbers of beds allocated to be 
available for supervision of "surgical" patients? 
Can I have this month by month 2022 and 2023 thus far. 
And also can you break down into children cases and adult cases. 
 
Response: 
 
The table below demonstrates, on a monthly basis, the number of ‘surgical’ beds that 
are recorded as ‘open’ on our hospital information system (PAS).  Please note that 
these are based on beds / wards that are open overnight. 
 
These beds are utilised for across all ‘surgical’ specialties which include Breast Surgery; 
ENT; General Surgery; Gynaecology; and Urology.  We are unable to provide figures 
for paediatric surgical beds as the paediatric beds in Daisy Hill Hospital are not split by 
surgical or medical.

Whilst the hospital information system demonstrates 49 beds, please note that the 
actual funded bed numbers, as agreed with the Commissioner, is 45.  This is made up 
as follows: 
 
  17 in the Female Surgical Ward 
  12 in the Elective Admissions Ward 
  16 in the Male Surgical Ward 
 
Due to temporary service needs a number of these ‘surgical’ beds are being temporarily 
utilised by Medicine.
