Support to BAME authors

R Begum made this Freedom of Information request to Welsh Book Council
This authority is not subject to FOI law, so is not legally obliged to respond (details).
This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

The request was successful.

Dear Welsh Book Council,

How have you collected information on the distribution of funds and grants to authors from a Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic background from 2010-present?

Yours faithfully,

R Begum

Castell Brychan,

Dear R Begum,

Thank you for your correspondence. We refer you to our previous response of 25 July 2022 in which we outlined that the Books Council of Wales is not a public authority and therefore FOI legislation does not apply.

However, in response to your specific question we confirm that we have not collected information on the distribution of funds and grants to authors from a Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic background from 2010-present.

Yours sincerely,
Books Council of Wales

Dear Castell Brychan,

Thank you for your message.

I noticed that being a charity, and not a public authority, there had been some evidence of third party requests to information under FOI legislation to BCW that BCW had fulfilled including "application from Golwg360", "Funding Support', "Information about your dealings with Stonewall [Extraneous material removed]" from 2014-2021" and "Support for English language publishers 2022" which led to me asking. I appreciate that you were not in a position to send me a substantive response to my FOI request on July 25th 2022, so I opted to ask the one question on how you have supported BAME authors over the past 12 years.

Yours sincerely,

R Begum
