Thank you for your email dated 25 September about supply teacher spend. You wrote: "Please can I see the level of supply teaching spend across the UK by region?”.

I have dealt with your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (“the Act”).

Data on spending by schools is collected separately for local authority maintained schools (for financial years) and academies (for academic years).

Local authority level figures for expenditure on supply staff, supply teacher insurance and agency supply teaching staff in maintained schools is in the attached table.

Here is a link to our most recent publication on the expenditure of schools and local authorities, covering the 2013-14 financial year. This shows you the range of information we collect from schools and local authorities:

https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics...

Information on spend in academy secondary schools in the 2013/14 academic year can be found at the following link (using the ‘Raw Data SATs’ worksheet –you can use the filter function to select the required region (column I) Data on supply staff can be found in columns AG to AJ.
https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/sy...

Please note that since the data for local authority maintained schools and academy schools relate to different time periods, they are not directly comparable.
The above data is for schools in England only, if you require information from other UK countries you will need to contact each devolved administration. Their website addresses are as follows:
Welsh Assembly Government www.wales.gov.uk<http://www.wales.gov.uk/>
Scottish Government www.scotland.gov.uk<http://www.scotland.gov.uk/>
