Dear Vale of Glamorgan Council,

Please can you send me information to show what your annual monetary savings/losses for the school years 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 have been through using supply teaching agencies rather than employing supply teachers directly through the council or schools.

Yours faithfully,

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request received on 24^th
September.

You requested the following information:

Please can you send me information to show what your annual monetary
savings/losses for the school years 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 have been
through using supply teaching agencies rather than employing supply
teachers directly through the council or schools.

Your request has been forwarded to the relevant Officer and I can advise
the teachers agency cost per day is £125/130 and the Teachers supply rates
could be anything from £146 to £264 depending on the TMS of the supply
teacher. The schools negotiate rates directly with their preferred agency
depending on the length of the supply.

We do not hold any savings/losses for using supply teaching agencies
rather than employing teachers directly.

I hope that this information is of assistance but if you are dissatisfied
with this response and would like to have this reviewed, please contact
the council’s Monitoring Officer (Legal Services) at the Civic Offices ,
Holton Road Barry CF63 4RU.

Dear FOI Unit,

I am concerned that the information you have sent me is inaccurate! Agencies may have charged £125/130 a number of years ago but these are no longer their rates. Please can you send me the rates charged now in 2017.
Please send me evidence of these rates by at least 2 agencies.

The rates you quoted for supply teachers on TPS is also inaccurate! They are not £146 to £264. This amount is grossly exaggerated! TPS starts at £117 per day for a NQT. For an UPS teacher the daily rate is £195.
I trust I will receive information about the daily rate that agencies charge schools within the statutory time limit.

Yours faithfully

K Davies

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for your email received on 8^th November in which you questioned
the accuracy of the information provided to you on 5^th October.

I have liaised with the relevant officer within the Learning & Skills and
can advise the original rates quoted are upheld.

Attached is a spreadsheet with transactions from a few schools showing the
daily rates which as previously stated varies from school to school (from
£125 to £135 with average being £129).

The calculations provided re TMS are accurate also but the figures include
on costs (Superannuation and NI) to reflect the actual cost of a daily
rate, they are not grossly exaggerated.

I hope the above information is of assistance.

Kind regards,
