Supply Teachers (E02 and E26)

We're waiting for Andy Smith to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Stoke on Trent City Council,

I would like to know how much each school in the LA spent on temporary supply teaching and other supply staff from external supply teaching agencies from September 1st 2020 - 12th October 2020. I would like to know this information for each Nursery, Primary, Secondary and SEND school. I would also, in addition to this, like to know which agency/s each school spent money with, broken down per school. As this information is not available on any Government website for this time period, this information is not already available, readily, to the public. I believe all LAs will have this information listed under 'E02' and 'E26'.

Yours faithfully,

Andy Smith

Dear Mr Smith,

SOT92211 Freedom of Information Internal Review Response regarding your
request for information about school expenditure on supply teaching from
external agencies

Having received your request for an internal review the Council has now
reviewed its original decision regarding your request for information
about school expenditure on supply teaching from external agencies between
01/09/2020 and 12/10/2020.  We apologise for the long delay in responding
to your Internal Review, this is due to a backlog of cases within the
Information Rights Team following redeployment due to COVID and additional
pressures on resources during the last 12 months.  We apologise for any
inconvenience this delay has caused you.

We can confirm that your Review has been upheld in part.  Please find the
Council’s explanation for this below.

Your request:

I would like to know how much each school in the LA spent on temporary
supply teaching and other supply staff from external supply teaching
agencies from September 1st 2020 - 12th October 2020. I would like to know
this information for each Nursery, Primary, Secondary and SEND school. I
would also, in addition to this, like to know which agency/s each school
spent money with, broken down per school. As this information is not

is not already available, readily, to the public. I believe all LAs will
have this information listed under 'E02' and 'E26'.

The Council’s response to your request:

We have now considered your request and can advise we do not hold the

Your Internal Review:

I am writing to request an internal review of Stoke on Trent City
Council's handling of my FOI request 'Supply Teachers (E02 and E26)'.

Requesting an internal review. Many other LAs have provided this
information, and I do not feel your LA is unique or different to them.
This information should be made available to the public.

Internal Review Investigation and Findings:

The City Council has now completed an Internal Review of your request for
information about school expenditure on supply teaching from external
agencies.  As part of this review we have liaised with our Human Resources
Department and they have advised that they do hold the information you
have requested for 11 of our maintained schools.

To explain further, the City Council has only 18 maintained schools, due
to the number of schools which have converted to Academies, we do not hold
the information you have requested for Academies.  Of the 18 maintained
schools, 11 are central and 7 cheque book schools.  We do not hold
information for cheque book schools so you will still need to contact the
schools themselves to obtain this information.  However we can provide
information for the 11 Central Schools.

Please find below the information on school expenditure on supply teaching
between 01/09/2020 and 12/10/2020; which was £8,497.75 in total.

Portland £3,017.00 Academics
Ball Green Primary £791.00 Academics
St Pauls Primary £4,689.75 ABC Teachers Limited
Total £8,497.75

Please note that suppliers do not always quote the specific day worked,
they may just state the number of teaching days per week ending 18^th
October, and therefore this has been taken into account when providing
these figures.

If you have any queries about this email, please do not hesitate to
contact us.

The information supplied may be used for domestic or journalistic
purposes. Its use for commercial gain including issuing to the public may
