In response:

1.         Describe or provide location of policy regarding one to
one/specialling/bedwatch services at your Trust.? See attached policy

2.         Are you satisfied with the current system? This is not a valid
FOI request as it requests a personal opinion rather than data held

3.         Do you currently out source 1-1 care for patients displaying
challenging behaviours?

Staff additional to the ward FSR are booked via the temporary staffing
office to back fill substantive staff who undertake the 1:1 duties.
Substantive HCA’s receive bespoke training to care for these patients.  We
also have a substantive pool of Enhanced Support Workers who have received
additional training to be able to provide meaningful activities and use
distraction techniques with challenging patients.  They are based on
specific wards but can be relocated to where they are required

4.         If out-sourced which department would be responsible for
deciding to call additional staff onto site?

It is the responsibility of the ward team to identify the requirement and
then the matron, associate director of nursing or site team request the
additional staff through healthroster and  temporary staffing office.

4.b. Which department would be responsible for arranging the contract with
the service provider?

N/A as the staff are all employed by MEHT

5.         How often does the Trust require assistance with patients
displaying challenging behaviours?

This is not specifically recorded

6.         What is the current average monthly spend on these services?
This data is not specifically recorded

7.         What training do staff providing these services receive?

Breakaway training

Conflict resolution training

3 day dementia training

7.b. What qualifications do they hold?

All HCA’s are working towards, or have completed, the healthcare
certificate

7.c. Is the training provided by the NHS or the Service Provider?

All training delivered in house

8.         What are the limitations of the current service? This is not a
valid FOI request as it requests a personal opinion rather than trust data
held

9.  Contact Details

This is a collaborative service with no one identified lead.  Wards are
responsible for their own budgets whilst the Associate Directors of
Nursing are responsible for their respective ESA budgets. Neither do we
provide any contact details of staff under FOI.

If you are not satisfied with this response you may request an independent
internal review by a senior member of the Trust staff who has had no
involvement in dealing with your request. We aim to deal with FOI appeals
within 20 days of receipt. Emails should be clearly marked ‘Internal
Review ' and sent to [email address] Should you remain dissatisfied after
this internal review, you will have a right of complaint to the
Information Commissioner.  Further information is available at:
