Suitability of Capita PIP Assessors

Rose Smith made this Freedom of Information request to Department for Work and Pensions

The request was successful.

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

Could you please provide data that shows:

- How the DWP ensures that Capita assessors are suitably qualified to assess specific medical conditions? For example, do you ensure they have direct experience of the specific condition in question?

- Data showing why the DWP thinks it's acceptable that a Capita nurse is better qualified than a Dr and a person experiencing a medical condition to 'decide' how a medical condition impacts the persons day to day life.

- Why the DWP thinks it's appropriate for Capita to send males to the homes of females who suffer with trauma related conditions, partly as a result of serious sexual abuse that resulted in significant injury and the removal of parts of their genitals (where they then had to discuss this and how it impacts them bathing and washing with a male assessor).

Yours faithfully,

Rose Smith
