Suggestions to Improve Administrative Efficiency and Reduce Costs

John Rudkin made this Freedom of Information request to Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

Waiting for an internal review by Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust of their handling of this request.

Dear Belinda Bruty

Whereas

suggestions have been put to the Trust (email, John Rudkin to PALS, March 30th 2013; letter to Dr McNeil, August 3rd 2013) concerning the use of email communications in respect of appointments, which would have the following benefits:

Enable notifications of the next appointment to be sent immediately at the close of a hospital visit;
Elimination of considerable costs of stationery, postage and clerk time.
Automatic creation of a record for both the Trust and the patient;
Allow the automatic sending of reminders, shortly before an appointment;
Reduce the number and very considerable costs of missed appointments;
Allow reliable, rapid, recorded and inexpensive communication, in respect of a new appointment when a change to a prescribed appointment is required

and

the eHospital team has stated that the suggestions could be implemented in the way I suggested (email,Ian Pentland, May 21st 2013)

the Trust undertook to forward the suggestions “to the eHospital project team and also the team reviewing Outpatient Services so that they can be factored into the ongoing service development” (letter, Brenda Hennessy,August 7th, 2013),

please provide the following information, with copies of documents which record:

1. what response has been received by the Trust from eHospital and when,

2. what the Trust’s views and intentions are with respect to the eventual implementatiom and value of the suggestions.

Yours faithfully,

John Rudkin

Dear Belinda Bruty

Thank you for the response, although it is disappointing, depressiing discouraging and hard to understand.

That "the eHospital is a project within the Trust " would seem to facilitate communication, rather than being given as a reason for there having been no a response from eHospital (or the team reviewing Outpatient Services ?) to my suggestions - especially bearing in mind the initial, immediate, encouraging and favourable reaction given directly, by telephone and email, by members of the eHospital team - who said that the ideas could be used within the procedures being formulated .

To help me better to understand, please will you provide copies of any and all communications which record and relate to the forwarding , receipt and appraisal and of my suggestions - within, or by ,or on behalf of the Trust.

Yours sincerely
John Rudkin
