Successful Prosecutions from Search Warrants

British Broadcasting Corporation did not have the information requested.

Dear British Broadcasting Corporation,

Could you please tell me out of all the search warrants granted to Capita Business Services Ltd (T/A TV Licensing) under S366 (2) communications act 2003 in the past 5 years, how many resulted in a successful prosecution for contravention of S363 communications act 2003?

Please note I'm not asking for how many search warrants was granted to the above company, rather a percentage of search warrants which was a direct cause for a successful prosecution, year on year.

Yours faithfully,

Wayne Kerr

I've tried asking something similar in the past. See here: http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/pe...

They refused to provide a response, citing their (second) favourite exemptions of information likely to prejudice law enforcement and the prevention/detection of crime.

But we know already that the percentage who are actually prosecuted is fairly small - less than half of those caught without a licence.

How on earth does knowing the percentage of SW's isssued secures a successful conviction likely to prejudice law enforcement and the prevention/detection of crime I'll never know.

Maybe the BBC doesn't want the public knowing it's "van determining a 97% probability of a live TV set in use" evidence based on a BARB statistic!
