Further to its recent acknowledgement, the University is now in a position
to provide you with a response to your request for information dated 9
July 2018.

 

Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to you. The
University endeavours to respond to all requests within the prescribed
timeframe but it has not been possible on this occasion due to long term
staff absence which has caused a backlog of requests.

 

1.     The number of registered students with a visual impairment

Response: 9

 

2.     The number of students with visual impairments that are text to
speech users.

Response: 0

 

3.     The number of students with visual impairments that are screen
reader users.

Response: This figure is exempt under s.40 FOIA 2000. This is because the
figure is very low and has the potential to allow re-identification of
individuals and as such is considered to constitute personal data.

 

4.     The total number of students

Response: This information is available via HESA. It is therefore exempt
from disclosure by virtue of s.21 FOIA 2000 as it is accessible by other
means as described below.

 

The Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) collects data from all
participating higher educational institutions in the UK, including
Teesside University.  This data is provided to UK governments and higher
education funding bodies to support their work in regulating and funding
higher education providers. In addition information derived from the data
is published as official statistics for use by a wide range of
organisations and individuals for a variety of purposes, including HE
providers, academic researchers, students, prospective students, private
companies, professional bodies and the press and the media.

 

HESA outputs include free statistics available via annual publication
introductions and free statistics online web pages with many facts and
figures in text, tables and chart formats
