Dear Beth,

I refer to your request for information received on 9 July 2018, and made valid through the provision of your full name on 17 July 2018. Your request is is being managed under the provisions of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (“the FOISA”). Please find the University's response to your query as follows:

1. The number of registered students with a visual impairment.

In academic year 2017/18, the University had 11 students who had declared that they were blind or had a serious visual impairment uncorrected by glasses.

Please note that some students declare that they have multiple disabilities, of which being blind or having a serious visual impairment may be a component, and that the University does not track the component disabilities for those declaring that they have multiple disabilities. As such, there may be additional students with visual impairments who are not included within the 11 students reported above. The above figure does not include students studying at the University's partner institutions, or associate students who study standalone modules as continuing professional development (CPD).

2. The number of students with visual impairments that are text to speech users.

The University does not collect information on the number of students with visual impairments that are text to speech users.

3. The number of students with visual impairments that are screen reader users.

The University does not collect information on the number of students with visual impairments that are screen reader users.

4. The total number of students - 4258.

Please note that this figure is for the 2017/18 academic year, and does not include students studying at the University's partner institutions or associate students who study standalone modules as continuing professional development (CPD).
