Dear University of Edinburgh,

I refer to the Spiegeltent that was erected at King's Buildings as part of the Student Village scheme. Some questions more specifically refer to the Student Village scheme. Please answer the following questions, with numbered responses to each question and/or an explanation of why limited information is available.

1. What consultation was undertaken to ensure that the Spiegeltent and/or Student Village was the most effective way of responding to the pandemic? Please provide documents, emails, memos and any other information relating to any discussions about the Spiegeltent.
2. How much was spent on obtaining, erecting and dismantling the Spiegeltent (including rental costs, transport costs, labour and replacement parts e.g. lightbulbs)?
3. How much was spent to supply utilities to the Spiegeltent (including electricity costs for 24/7 lighting, heating, water, toilets, internet)? Please also include costs of the temporary toilet facilities built in the adjacent car park.
4. What contractors/suppliers/vendors were used to build, maintain and supply the Spiegeltent?
5. How much was paid to each contractor?
6. Was a competitive tender/bid process used during the organisation of the Spiegeltent? If so, which organisational stages underwent a competitive tender/bid process?
7. How many people were involved in the erection, maintenance and dismantling of the Spiegeltent?
8. When will the large, damaged grass area under the Spiegeltent be restored to its original condition?
9. Was an environmental impact assessment carried out for the trees and plants that had to be cut/destroyed as part of the Spiegeltent’s construction?
10. How many people in total used the Spiegeltent for its intended purpose?
11. How many days in total was the Spiegeltent available for its intended purpose?
12. How much revenue did the Spiegeltent generate?
13. Approximately, what is the overall financial loss to the university as a result of the Student Village Scheme?
14. Does this financial loss have any foreseeable impact on the budget available for student facilities at King’s Buildings or at the university?

Yours faithfully,

Jonathan Dennis
