I write further to your request for information, below, made on 28 September 2022, under the
terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, and also to my acknowledgement of the
same date. Please accept my apologies for the delay in providing this ful response.
Having consulted my col eagues, I am now able to provide the fol owing response to your
request.
Do you have an existing transport service for students?
The university does have an existing transport service for students
If yes:
When is the contract due for renewal?
Two years.
Which companies provide your transport services?
First Bus.
What is your annual budget for student transport?
Approximately £350,000.
Do you charge students to use the transport service? If so, how much and what type of
tickets do you provide (daily, termly, annual)?
There are no charges to students for using the University bus service.
How many students use the transport per day?
The University is unable to provide this information as it is not held. Members of staff are
also entitled to use the service and the University does not track which users are students
and which are staff.
What is your occupancy rate?

The University is unable to provide this information as it is not held. Anecdotal y, there is na
awareness that the occupancy rate varies considerable throughout the day/week, however,
the occupancy rate depends on the buses used – this is a matter for the transport operator
and is out of the University’s control.
How many parking spaces available vs. demand for spaces?
The University has approximately 737 ordinary spaces, 12 spaces for maintenance vehicles,
10 spaces for facilities vehicles and 38 disabled spaces. The University does not track
demand for spaces.
How much do you charge for parking, and how much money is generated per year?
The University does not currently charge for parking for eligible users.
Please explain how you procure student transport services.
Through a public sector procurement framework.

What job role is responsible for managing the transport budget?
Energy and Environment Manager.
How many staff members are in the transport team?
One.
