The request was partially successful.

Dear East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust,

I have been informed that the 1st Intake of SAP will not be enrolled in university until 2016. If at all. Could you explain why?. Can you confirm this please. Also can you confirm if there is a compensation plan for these students as i understand they have been contributing towards the university costs for 12 months now.

Please answer this enquiry with no spin.....

Yours faithfully,

William Clinton

Dear East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust's handling of my FOI request 'Student Paramedics University Enrolment Date'.

The trust has had over 12 months to sort out what university the students will attend. And still they will not make it clear......

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/s...

Yours faithfully,

William Clinton

Dear William

I have completed an Internal Review in relation to your Freedom of Information request. In order to understand why there has been a delay in responding to you, the Consultant Paramedic has provided additional information. I have been informed that the delay in responding was due to the high workload of the manager completing your request and ongoing work related to the approval of the education programme. Also, the Trust wanted to ensure that all of those affected by this issue have been informed before releasing this information. Clearly the delay is unacceptable and I would like to apologise on behalf of the Trust for this. The information requested can be found below:

I have been informed that the 1st Intake of SAP will not be enrolled in university until 2016. If at all. Could you explain why? Can you confirm this please. Also can you confirm if there is a compensation plan for these students as I understand they have been contributing towards the university costs for 12 months now.

The delay in the Student Paramedics commencing their studies at University is due to the fact that the programmes do not have the approval from the Health and Care Professions Council. No programme can commence without this approval and further work is currently ongoing to achieve this. We are planning for one intake to commence at a University in November and the other in January.

The fees paid by students are used to support all the associated costs with the programme that the Trust incurs. We are working with UNISON to look at supportive measures that can be put in place that relate to pay and progression. These discussions are ongoing and will be shared as soon as possible.

I am obliged to advise you that if you are dissatisfied with the Trust’s response to your request you have a right to complain to the Trust and should set out your concerns to the Freedom of Information Officer, EEAST, Hospital Approach, Broomfield, Chelmsford, Essex, CM1 7WS or by email to [East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust request email]. If you remain dissatisfied following this, you have a right under Section 50 of the FOIA to seek a determination from the Information Commissioner on whether the Act has been properly applied by the Trust. For more information, please see www.ico.gov.uk.

Kind regards
