Thank you for your Freedom of Information request and your interest in the University of
Bedfordshire.
Request
You requested the following information:
1. A breakdown of the number of full-time students, split by undergraduate and
postgraduate attending our different campuses for the 2017-18 academic year.
Response
In response to question 1, please see the attached excel spreadsheet.
Please note that where numbers are so low that there is a risk of identifying individuals by
releasing this level of data, the University is exempt under section 40 of the Freedom of
Information Act 2000, as amended by the Data Protection Act 2018, from releasing this
information as it amounts to personal information. Section 40(2)(b) of the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 states:
Section 40(2): Any information to which a request for information relates is also exempt
information if—
(b) [the first, second or third] condition below is satisfied.
Section 40(3A): The first condition is that the disclosure of the information to a member
of the public otherwise than under this Act—
(a) would contravene any of the data protection principles, or
(b) would do so if the exemptions in section 24(1) of the Data Protection Act 2018
(manual unstructured data held by public authorities) were disregarded.
Section 40(7): In this section—
“the data protection principles” means the principles set out in—

(a) Article 5(1) of the GDPR, and
(b) section 34(1) of the Data Protection Act 2018;
In respect of this, we have applied this exemption to four of our campuses as the first
condition is satisfied due to the information comprising of personal data of individuals other
than yourself, which if disclosed would contravene section 40(3A)(a) of the Freedom of
Information Act, and would breach the principles of the GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018.
If you are not satisfied by the way we have handled your request, you can request a review
