The request was successful.

Brighton Council's Student Housing Strategy 2010-2014 expires this year.

Whilst the council is not legally obliged to have a strategy in place, it is considered good practice.

Can you confirm that with significant proposed expansions at both univesities over the next 5 years and the national government caps on student intakes being removed next year that Brighton Council intends to ignore good practice and not have a strategy in place for Student Housing in the city?

If this is not the case, please explain what the strategy is to deal with student housing in the coming years and providing a link to the new strategy document?

Brighton and Hove City Council

A new Housing Strategy has been in development throughout 2014. The proposed new strategy integrates the separate strategies in a single document with a specific focus on key themes, which includes Student Housing. Regular progress reports on the development of this strategy have been taken to Housing Committee throughout 2014. The final strategy is due for sign off in January 2015.

In addition, provision for new student accommodation in response to projected increased in student numbers is managed through the City Plan. Proposed modifications to the City Plan Part One were agreed on 16 October 2014. Consultation on the modifications and background documents are starting on 4 November for six weeks.
