Dear Rob,
Thank you for your freedom of information request to Churchill College.
Unfortunately, we cannot answer questions 2 and 3 or any of their sub-sets. Academic misconduct is dealt with by the University of Cambridge, at a central level, not by the College, and we do not, therefore keep any of the requested data.
For questions 4 and 5, the College does not use Turnitin. All assessment is managed at University level, not by the College.
Within question 1, we can answer some of the sub-queries, with caveats:
• For 1.2 (nationality), the question is complicated by the fact that our students may have more than one passport, and we do not categorise students by nationality. We have a primary citizenship category, for which I include data in the attached spreadsheet. Please note that many citizenship categories contained numbers between 0 and 5 which might make individuals identifiable. To protect their personal data, these categories have been removed. This exemption is covered under Section 40 (2) of the Freedom of Information Act.
• For 1.3 (ethnicity), our data is based on optional voluntary declaration by our students. The data we have presented is, therefore, incomplete, as not all students declare ethnicity. Please note that several ethnicity categories contained numbers between 0 and 5 which might make individuals identifiable. To protect their personal data, these categories have been removed. This exemption is covered under Section 40 (2) of the Freedom of Information Act.
• For 1.4, all students are required to demonstrate competency in the English language.
• In the case of 1.5, many of the specifics of disabilities which you have requested would require declaration of small numbers (between 0 and 5) which might make individuals identifiable. We have provided the number of students who declared a specific type of disability where that total is over 5, and an overall figure of students declaring a disability. To protect their personal data, all categories with numbers between 0 and 5 have been removed. This exemption is covered under Section 40 (2) of the Freedom of Information Act.
Please find attached a spreadsheet detailing what demographic data we do have and can make available to you, separated by undergraduate and postgraduate level.
If you are not satisfied with the way in which this request has been handled, please address your complaint to the Bursar, Churchill College. If the College is unable to resolve your complaint to your satisfaction, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner (https://ico.org.uk/).
All best wishes,
Lex
