Student Behaviours

The request was successful.

Dear Harper Adams University,

Please could you supply figures for the last 5 years regarding suspensions and exclusions (including permanent) for students enrolled on courses at your establishment with regards to:

a) Alcohol related incidents
b) Drug related incidents

If the output could be broken down into years, and an indicator of "normal" (age 16-25) and "mature" (aged 26 and over).

Despite the fact that I, as a requester, do not have to show that releasing the information is in the public interest (as opposed to withholding it being in the public interest), I suggest that releasing the information is indeed in the public interest. This is because of general public interest in transparency. It also is in the public interest because there is a public interest in people knowing about any risks to which their a student on your courses may be exposed. Moreover, the public has a right to know about the existence of these exposures to ensure they do not happen again, and that appropriate mitigating controls are put in place. Moreover, if there is no risk, there is little prospect of it being in the public interest to withhold the information.

Yours faithfully,

Stuart Harris
