Dear T Morgan

Re: Freedom of Information Act 2000

Further to your email, received on 23 December 2013, we are pleased to
enclose the requested information.

You requested

Please inform me of the reasoning behind the councils policy of requiring
council tenants to be members of a registered with the council TRA in
order to access particular works and services and whether or not the
council intends to review this policy.

Response:
Thank you for your query about resident engagement in Camden.  When
informing, consulting or involving residents our approach is considered on
a case by case basis. For example:
·         If we were consulting residents on our approach to dealing with
reports of domestic violence, we may decide that our best approach would
be to run a focus group of women who have experienced domestic violence.
·         Should we wish to consult residents on improvement works planned
for their estate, we would normally advise any existing TRA as a matter of
courtesy and if appropriate carry out wider consultation.
·         Should we wish to consult residents about play areas in the
borough, we would primarily talk to parents and children and those living
in homes nearest to the play areas.

I do hope that this demonstrates that we do engage residents in a wide
range of issues about works and services through and outside of the TRAs.

We hope that the information is useful to you.

Review due on or around 7 Feb 2014.

Dear Camden Borough Council,

You stated that the review "has been listed provisionally for consideration on or shortly after 07 February."

It is now 17 February (you did mean Feb 2014?) and I was wondering if the review has been held?

Yours faithfully,

T. Morgan

Dear Sir

The team who supplied the original response have asked for the following clarification in case they misunderstood your original request:

what particular works and services are you referring to?

Please let us know at your earliest convenience

Best regards

Dear Stephen Carter,

For clarification, my request relates to the services council tenant groups who receive DMC funding provide.

This in practice could range from the painting of external walls after a water leak etc, to internal communal decorations and carpeting of stairs, to communal garden improvement works to/on council housing estates/street properties.

In practice it could even mean that such things as sound proofing for badly converted street properties could be provided.

My understanding is that these services don't appear to be available to council tenants unless they join a registered with Camden council tenants group who then have to join the DMC's to access the funding to provide these services.

Yours sincerely,

T. Morgan
